Smart Energy Strategies
Reduce your energy consumption while increasing your financial returns, through better technologies, building design, and behavioural changes.
Lower electricity bills:
-
Opt to use appliances such as the dishwasher during off-peak periods when electricity costs are lower.
-
Energy storage solutions, such as batteries, not only provide energy independence in times of power outages but also reduce electricity costs by using stored power in peak demand times when rates are higher.
-
Solar panels can cover around 60-80% of your energy needs.
-
Solar hot water systems can lower water heating energy consumption by up to 75%.
-
Building insulation can significantly lower electricity bills by reducing the amount of energy needed to mechanically heat or cool your home.
-
Modern energy-efficient appliances with high Energy Star ratings consume less power and can reduce your power costs by around 30% over time.
-
Maximise energy savings by investing in building automation systems that automatically control heating, cooling and lighting based on your occupancy needs.
Government incentives
Research government incentives and rebates in your region, for the purchase of energy-efficient appliances. Appliances account for approximately 30% of energy use in your home. When you replace old appliances with more energy-efficient models, you can reduce your power costs.
Green Home Loans:
Purchasing or building an energy-efficient home can lead to financial perks. Many lenders provide reduced interest rates, cashback offers, or other incentives on mortgage loans to buyers who meet specific energy efficiency criteria.
Increased Property Value and rental appeal
Homes with lower ongoing utility charges are in increased demand with buyers and renters. Energy-efficient homes often warrant a higher asking price, as they offer a more cost-effective and efficient living option.
Incorporating cost-saving features such as solar panels, battery storage systems, energy-efficient windows, LED lighting, insulation, and smart technology will distinguish your property and enhance its market appeal.

The National Construction Code (NCC) has minimum requirements for health and safety in the design and construction of new Australian homes, which includes NatHERS. If you’re building or renovating, it’s mandatory to get a home energy rating and NatHERS Universal Certificate issued by a NatHERS assessor in order to meet Australia’s energy efficiency requirements.
The NatHERS rating scale goes from 0 to 10 stars – the more stars, the less energy required to heat and cool, which reduces energy costs. As of 2022, the minimum standard for the NCC in most Australian states is a 7-star energy rating.
